— Logo, Stationary Sets, Poster and AR Experience —
This was a branding project for a fictitious jewelry company called 'Everglow'. The project included logo design, stationery sets, a poster and an AR experience for product promotion. It was an interesting project for me because it allowed me to think about the collabotation between traditional advertising materials like print posters with new technology. I feel that effective use of technology like AR experiences can offer customers a memorable experience.
I wanted to create a logo based on the comapny's name to reflect the sophisticated brand. So I tried to make the logo using the letters 'E' and 'G', playing with curves that would look like rings with diamond shapes.
Based on my thumbnails, I created different versions of the logo by using Adobe Illustrator, leaning into the 'E' and 'G' lettering and the diamond ring shapes.
This is the logo that I decided to go with. I chose this one because Everglow's brand image is 'Morden, Clean, Luxurious'. The larger 'E' hugging the 'G' was clean and simple, and gave the logo a modern and fancy look. By putting the brand name at the bottom, it would help the new brand recognise and associate the brand name with the logo. I used a script font for the brand name to add sophistication to the logo's look.
I decided on the main colour of dark red (#a61e22), inspired by a red rose. Red roses have represented love and romance for centuries across many cultures. The dark red also gave the brand a fancier feel, and would leave the impression of its being a luxurious brand. The secondary colour is black. The classic combination of black and red helps generate a bold and fancy mood. For the third colour, I chose a dark blue to compliment the red, which would be a familiar combination to the customers who look for sophistication in their luxury brands.
To start out with the stationery sets, I once again started by making severl the thumbnail sketches for each of the stationery items I was to design.
From there, I chose this business card design, prominently featuring the dark red of the brand. I added lines to the design in order to organize the information, separating the name and the information block (phone number, address and email).
The final envelope design I chose was extended from the chosen business card, ensuring only brand colours were used throughout for consistency. And the letterhead takes the same line elements from the business card to help further establish the company's branding. This sense of consistency across all the brand's stationery is key to good branding.
The next part of the project was to make a poster for the promotion of a diamond ring. I drew the line art in Adobe Illustrator to give me a clean vector. The inspiration for this was the nature of the diamond ring itself. Being used for engagements, I decided to lean into the romanticism and draw a couple in each other's arms.
The AR experience was broken up into several parts: texturing the model, exporting the textured model, and then animating it in the AR software, Adobe Aero. I applied textures and colours to the ring box using stock textures and 3D model assets. The model was UV unwrapped, and the textures edited in Photoshop to be applied back onto the model through Adobe Dimension. I did some basic editing to get the lighting on the box just right before exporting them back into Dimension to be applied to the model.
These are screenshots of the model once the textures were applied in Dimension, and then exported for Adobe's AR experience software Aero. In Aero, I applied the animation that I wanted to happen, and then adjusted the camera view to ensure that customers viewing the AR experience would see exactly what I had intended.
The AR experience was set up so that if a customer found the poster and scanned it with their smartphone, the AR experience would open in Adobe Aero. Once the experience loads, the box with the ring will appear to come out of the printed poster. If the ring is tapped, it would come out of the box, and spin to give customers a better look. This AR experience would leave a positive impression of the product in the customers' mind.
