— A Showcase Video and Logo Proposal —
This was an internship with BCIT's Tech Collider project. The Tech Collider is a new space at BCIT's downtown campus, which will be a next-generation learning center connected with the technology industry. My role in the project was graphic design intern. I worked with teammate Carissa So, we were told to create content to promote this new space.
Our deliverables for this project were: a photo package, a promotional video, and a branding proposal.
The photo package was to be used in digital marketing. We took some general shots of the space, the equipment, and of students in the space using it. We also created several renders with additional graphics composited over top, which helped showcase more of the technology that in the space.
The video started with shooting the space, then cutting the footage together in Adobe Premiere to match the music. The next step was to generate 3D graphics, and to create text-based motion graphics to match the style that the stakeholders wants to achieve. This was done in Adobe After Effects. The final video was uploaded online and sent out to stakeholders and partners of the space.
For this shot, I wanted to be able to show the subject interacting with AR. As we did not have any footage from the AR glasses she was wearing, I modelled a cake and some candles in Blender, and animated them to be edited into the video. We decided to use these additional 3D modelled scenes as a way to showcase the technology that the space wants to promote in a more visual way.
I used the letters 'T' and 'C' from the name of the space. As there is a pattern of squares in the design of the Tech Collider space, I leaned into square shapes in some of my sketches. The other theme in the Tech Collider is its aiming to be a technology hub. To offer more variety, I did several sketches with this concept.
I cleaned up my sketches in Adobe Illustrator and applied BCIT's branding colours to be sent to the stakeholders.
Given feedback from the stakeholders, I was given the opportunity to propose a different colour palette for the Tech Collider. I tried to bring the BCIT branding colours and common tech company branding colours together for my proposal.
The final logo and branding colours, and simple wordmark options were compiled into my final proposal.
